Strengthening Cross-Border Disaster Preparedness: Algeria-Tunisia Cooperation

From January 7–9, 2025, PPRD Med hosted a significant joint pilot in Algiers, Algeria, bringing together representatives from the Algerian and Tunisian Civil Protection services, meteorological agencies, and dam authorities. This event focused on addressing cross-border flood risks, particularly scenarios involving the Aïn Dalia dam and its potential downstream impacts in Tunisia.

Participants analyzed extreme flood scenarios, assessed vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure, and explored advanced predictive tools such as satellite data and the FastFlood model. This initiative marked a major milestone in fostering operational and technical collaboration between Algeria and Tunisia, emphasizing coordinated disaster management strategies.
